New MA Degree in Advanced Chinese Studies

Korea Research Hub (KRH) - Launch of New Website

The Korea Research Hub (KRH) website, a collaborative project between the University of Leeds and the University of Sheffield, has just been launched. The KRH was established in June 2007 to promote the study of Korea, and the Korea Research Hub website provides a number of useful web-based resources to help those interested in Korean studies. The KRH website is also intended to promote and facilitate networking and collaborative research among Koreanists. The KRH team have ambitious plans to broaden the scope of the project's work over the coming years.

New Publication

A new book entitled ‘China, Japan and Regional Leadership in East Asia’ edited by Christopher M. Dent has just been published by Edward Elgar publishers. The book is compiled of revised papers presented at a WREAC research workshop that took place last year.

The 11th BATJ Annual Conference
The 11th British Association for Teaching Japanese (BATJ) Annual Conference will be held at University of Leeds on 5-6 September. The two-day conference aims to provide an opportunity to develop knowledge and awareness of various issues on Japanese language education from both theoretical and practical aspects. It includes a keynote speech on teacher development (Prof. Shin'ichiro Yokomizo, Saga University, Japan), a talk on the translation of Japanese literature (Prof. Mark Williams, University of Leeds), a presentation on an E-learning advanced Japanese language course (Dr. Thomas McAuley & Dr. Dr Luli van der Does-Ishikawa?University of Sheffield) among other presentations both from the UK and overseas.

News

Department rated as 'world class'
A recent Sunday Times special issue on UK Universities rated the Department's research as being of a 'world class' standard. This was part of a wider survey that ranked the School of Modern Languages and Cultures, to which our Department belongs, as the fourth best in the country for foreign language provision.
